Gybe Steps Up To Group Level In 2011 Golden Pendant

September 22nd, 2011

Anthony Cummings is confident of his four-year-old mare Gybe’s winning chances in the 2011 Golden Pendant at Rosehill Racecourse this Saturday September 24, 2011.

The Fastnet Rock mare won her last start in the Listed Blackwoods Sheraco Stakes and has only failed to place once this preparation.

“She’s as tough as … handles all conditions. Just a genuine mare,” Cummings said.

Gybe had some issues in her three-year-old season that saw her take a ten month break following her debut win in the Listed Gimcrack Stakes.

“After she won the Gimcrack Stakes at her first start she didn’t come back after that,” Cummings said.

“But that is all behind her now and I think she can keep going on with it although 1100 (metres) to 1200 is the right distance for her.”

Cummings places blinkers on Gybe for the first time last start, which proved to be nothing but successful.

“Because she was coming back in distance I wanted her to be sharper to finish off … it’s nice when a plan works out,” Cummings said.

Gybe has won five of her 12 starts, but this will be her first attempt at Group level.
