Returning to the track in typically slick form this year, trainer Chris Waller has nominated classy mare Catkins for the 2014 Golden Pendant.

Securing a particularly impressive total of 12 wins and seven minor places from just 24 competitive starts so far, Catkins was a standout performer over the 2013 edition of the Spring Racing Carnival; winning each of the Group 3 How Now Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 Eliza Park International Stakes (1600m) and finishing second in both the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m) most notably over six appearances.

Returning to racing this year in similarly smart form, the Dubawi mare won each of the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) and Group 3 Wiggle Stakes (1400m) first-up before running third in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) on March 22nd.

Returning to the winner’s circle in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) on April 5th, Catkins finished sixth in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) on Day 2 of The Championships and returned to the paddock after running on for fourth in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m) on June 21st.

Charging home to win the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) by nearly three lengths first-up on September 13th, Waller is confident the step-up in distance to 1400m this weekend will play directly into the strengths of the talented mare.

Also included in nominations for the 2014 Golden Pendant is impressive David Vandyke-trained mare Arabian Gold.

Securing eight wins and three minors over her 18 competitive starts so far, Arabian Gold also secured several memorable results over an impressive 2013 spring campaign, highlighted by a strong victory in the Listed Ethereal Stakes (200m) and fourth in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) on October 5th.

Returning to racing in career-best form this year, the daughter of Dubawi overcame a disappointing run for 11th in the Group 3 Keith F Nolan Classic (1600m) on March 23rd which three-consecutive black type victories; taking out each of the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m), Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) and Group 2 The Roses (2000m); returning to the paddock after running a close second in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) on May 31st.

Yet to appear on course during the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, an ideal barrier draw is likely to mean the difference between success and a tough day at the track for the 2000m specialist in the 2014 Golden Pendant.

Unlucky to be blocked for a run a sixth in the Sheraco Stakes first-up on September 13th, Luke Price has nominated Belle De Coeur for the 2014 Golden Pendant.

Securing three wins and five places over her short 11 race career so far, Belle De Coeur laid a great account for herself over the 2014 autumn and winter carnivals; finishing second in the Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m) and third in all of the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m), Group 2 Dane Riper Stakes (1400m) and Listed Centenary Mile (1600m) most notably.

A final field and barrier draw for the 2014 Golden Pendant is due to be released on Wednesday morning.
