2014 Golden Pendant Final Field and Barrier Draw

September 24th, 2014

Just 12 runners have been confirmed to line up for this weekend’s featured Group 3 Golden Pendant (1400m) at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse, highlighted by several notable performers over the 2014 Australian racing calendar so far.

Returning to racing in typically slick form this time in, trainer Chris Waller has confirmed leading chance Catkins for an appearance in the 2014 Golden Pendant.

Securing an impressive total of 12 wins and seven minors from just 24 competitive starts so far, Catkins failed to finish outside the places in six appearances during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, highlighted by victories in both the Group 3 How Now Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 Eliza Park International Stakes (1600m) and close seconds in both the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m) and Group 1 Myer Classic (1600m).

Continuing to make her presence felt over a strong autumn campaign, the Dubawi mare won both the Group 2 Breeders Classic (1200m) and Group 3 Wiggle Stakes (1400m) before running on for third in the Group 1 Coolmore Classic (1500m).

Returning to the winner’s circle in the Group 2 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) most notably, Catkins jogged home to win the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) first-up on September 13th and will be particularly hard to beat from the central barrier 6 in the 2014 Golden Pendant.

Arguably hitting career-best form to date over the late autumn and winter this year, trainer David Vandyke has confirmed Arabian Gold for the 2014 Golden Pendant.

Steadily building to the task over mid-pack finishes in three black type starts at the beginning of the year, Arabian Gold charged home to beat a talented field to the line in the Group 3 Adrian Knox Stakes (2000m) on April 12th before repeating the dose just a fortnight later in the Group 3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m).

Traveling to Brisbane for the Winter Racing Carnival, the daughter of Dubawi secured a comfortable victory in the Group 2 The Roses (2000m) on May 17th before placing an agonizingly close second in the Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2400m).

Arguably the biggest winner at Wednesday’s barrier draw in being allocated the ideal gate 2, Arabian Gold will be partnered by leading jockey Blake Shinn in the Golden Pendant and looks a great chance of success after winning a strong barrier trial at Warwick Farm on September 12th.

Despite being unable to figure when tenth in the Sheraco Stakes first-up, trainer Joe Pride is confident Chintz will be far better for the competitive run and is expecting a polished performance from the five-year-old in the 2014 Golden Pendant.

Beginning her racing career under the guidance of kiwi trainer Tony Pike before transferring to Pride’s Warwick Farm stables part-way through autumn, the Savabeel mare secured several impressive results in her final New Zealand campaign; winning both the Group 2 Rich Hill Mile (1600m) and Group 3 Westbury Classic (1400m) and finishing second in both the Group 2 Japan Trophy (1600m) and Group 1 Easter Handicap (1600m) most notably.

Appearing in nominations for the featured Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) in October, Pride is confident of carrying winning form into the major target with a win amongst classy company in the Golden Pendant.
