Group 1 winner First Seal has not been seen at the races this season, but remains an outright $3.40 favourite in 2016 Golden Pendant betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Heavens Above ($5) and Dixie Blossoms ($7).

Will First Seal justify favouritism and win the 2016 Golden Pendant, or will one of her talented rivals post an upset?

First Seal ($3.40)

A proven first-up performer, First Seal secured a number of typically smart results in autumn this year and is more than worth consideration for a bet at current Golden Pendant odds. Winner of the 2014 edition of the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m), the Fastnet Rock mare resumed this year for an impressive win in the Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m) before running second to Holler in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m). Progressing to fourth in the Group 1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) before a hapless performance in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m), First Seal will be partnered by Blake Shinn this weekend and will leave from the ideal barrier 3.

Heavens Above ($5)

Heavens Above has returned to racing in career-best form this year, and undoubtedly has the class to be right in the finish of the 2016 Golden Pendant. Capping an impressive Autumn Carnival campaign a close second behind Azkadellia in the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) on Day 2 of The Championships, the daughter of Street Cry received an ideal tune up when fourth amongst classy company in the Group 3 Toy Show Quality (1300m) first-up on August 20th. Having returned to winning form with a dominant performance for success in the Group 3 Sheraco Stakes (1200m), Heavens Above could receive the run of the race from barrier 4 and will be partnered by Tye Angland.

Sold For Song ($11)

Queensland mare Sold For Song returns to her ideal distance and conditions in the Golden Pendant and is undoubtedly over the odds at her current $11 quote for success or $3.30 to finish in the first three. Sold For Song took a position off pace in the Sheraco Stakes first-up this time, and while hampered for a run and caught wide, mustered a big turn of foot to finish a credible sixth. With extra distance and clear running, the daughter of Collate is a legitimate winning chance in the Golden Pendant.
